Biden's 2024 Correspondents Dinner Remarks Sting Donald Trump

bob marley house

Today the house functions as combined tourist attraction, museum and shrine, and much remains as it was in Marley’s day. All the original rooms have been kept as they were when Bob lived here to ensure authenticity. Enter the Museum and allow us to envelop you with the sights and sounds of Bob, as you take a guided tour of this Jamaican Heritage Site. Our friendly, charming and knowledgeable guides will escort you through the grounds, which include the main house, exhibition hall, theatre, gift shops and the One Love Café. A group of gunmen attacked Marley & The Wailers while they were rehearsing on the night of December 3, 1976, two days before a planned concert in Kingston’s National Heroes Park. Fortunately, the Marleys weren’t severely injured, but manager Don Taylor wasn’t as lucky.

All you need to know about the Bob Marley Museum

After getting ripped off by producers in his first few years, Bob decided early on he wanted more control of his music. In 1970, he started a label and record shop in Trench Town called Tuff Gong. On the Marley tour, a knowledgeable Rasta guide—a Marley family member, if you’re lucky—offers in-depth stories about Bob Marley’s life, music and cultural legacy.

The music label’s record shop has been recreated since then and it can be found inside the Bob Marley Museum. Exploring this room is a great way to experience a beautiful piece of musical history while learning more about Bob Marley and his famous band members. These included several other artists such as Peter Tosh, Junior Braithwaite, Beverly Kelso, and Bunny Livingston. Jamaican singer-songwriter Bob Marley helped introduce reggae music to the world and remains one of the genre’s most beloved artists, having sold more than 75 million records. In 1963, Marley and his friends formed The Wailing Wailers, which eventually became Bob Marley & The Wailers.

The original plan of the building was basically rectangular with a projecting portiere of the building having a room above and carport below. Above the main portion of the building is a tipped roof with an engaged gable segment covering the portico. Watch the original in-studio music video for "Could You Be Loved" below.

Fans are greeted with headphones at the Soul Shakedown studio to groove out to the curated playlist in the silent disco. A massive immersive experience celebrating Bob Marley is heading for its U.S. premiere early next year, complete with photographs, lots of music and even a pair of the reggae giant’s footwear. The 2012 documentary Marley, directed by Oscar winner Kevin Macdonald, combined interviews with unheard tracks and footage of Marley to tell the story of his life and career. Adored by the people of Jamaica, Marley was given a hero’s send-off. More than 30,000 people paid their respects to the musician during his memorial service, held at the National Arena in Kingston, Jamaica.

Other Marley children are involved in family-related businesses, including the Tuff Gong record label, founded by Marley in the mid-1960s. Photographer Neville Garrick captures Bob in a set that inspired the Rastaman Vibration cover art. European powerhouse Mediawan has acquired Leonine, a leading production and distribution group active in German-speaking markets. With a far slicker production than the WHCD has seen for several years, tonight’s gathering went fast for the laughs.

There are trinkets and drawings from fans who have visited the site, anxious to witness reggae’s greatest icon buried six feet over ground. The Morant Bay Courthouse, which was destroyed by fire on Monday, February 19, 2007, is an important part of St. Thomas's history. His home was always open, and people from all walks of life would come to hang out with Bob. Here, the Jackson Five stopped by right before their show together on March 5, 1975. Originally owned by Island Records founder Chris Blackwell as a guest space for visitors coming to Jamaica, Marley acquired the property during his contract renegotiation for Natty Dread in 1974.

Take in the modest, tin-roofed shanty where Robert Nesta Marley was born in 1945. Proving that big things can come from small beginnings; the house is nothing more than a sitting room and a tiny bedroom with an outdoor fire ring for cooking. Authentic and well-preserved, the cottage drives home the humble origins of the child who was raised in poverty, often went to bed hungry and later devoted himself to supporting Jamaica’s poor. The Bob Marley museum is situated on the site of the legendary musician’s home, which he purchased in 1975. This house, featuring 19th-century architecture, was Marley’s home until his transition in 1981. It was converted into a museum six years later by his wife, Mrs Rita Marley.

Bob Marley, a household name in Jamaica and a reggae icon elsewhere, was really one of those personalities that put Jamaica on the map. The smooth reggae grooves of this beloved artist are adored throughout the world, as are most things Bob Marley-branded. The truly timeless Bob Marley paved the way for other reggae artists and, although his life was cut short at a young age, his legacy and his impact on those following in his footsteps lives on through his music. Some say a visit to “the Graceland of Reggae” is a spiritual experience.

Despite the attack and after much deliberation, Marley still played at the show. The motivation behind the attack was never uncovered, and Marley fled the country the day after the concert. The former recording studio out back is now an exhibition hall with some wonderful photos of Bob, and a theater, where the tour closes with a 20-minute film.

Music, Art & Culture Collide At The Bob Marley Museum In Jamaica

When you finally reach Nine Mile, the village is little more than a haphazard collection of houses—it’s easy to spot the Marley home by the clusters of dread-locked ganja hawkers gathered around the compound’s walls. Visitors enter the compound through a large wooden gate and head up a staircase leading directly to the gift shop. Treat yourself to authentic Jerk chicken at the restaurant and bar, where many light up in honor of the legend himself. The property also features a well-equipped 80-seat theatre, a photographic gallery, a record shop and a gift shop filled with a wide array of Bob Marley memorabilia. On tour to support the album, Bob Marley & The Wailers traveled throughout Europe, playing in front of large crowds.

Experiences

His gold and platinum records are there on the walls, alongside Marley’s favorite denim stage shirt, and the Order of Merit presented by the Jamaican government. One room is entirely wallpapered with media clippings from Marley’s final tour; another contains a replica of Marley’s original record shop, Wail’n Soul’m. Marley’s simple bedroom has been left as it was, and next to it is the kitchen were he'd fix healthy fresh juices. At the rear of the house you'll see the spot where gunmen attempted to kill him in 1976.

Black History

Bob would often grab a guitar, find a spot on the property, and look around for inspiration. Many of his most famous hits like "Three Little Birds" and "No Woman No Cry" were written at 56 Hope Road. The song "56 Hope Road" from the album In the Pursuit of Leisure by Sugar Ray featuring Shaggy is named in reference to the home. Beach.com is the #1 travel discovery platform for beach destinations. It’s our mission to help you find the perfect beach destination, and then give you the tools to turn beach dreams into beach days.

If nothing else, it gives a deep perspective on Jamaica’s musical messenger of hope. At the end of the tour, the Rastafarian guide sings his goodbyes, reggae style, with wishes for peace and love. The band got its big break in 1972 when The Wailers landed a contract with Island Records, founded by Chris Blackwell.

There is very little information on what happened to Marley's house in Delaware aside from the constructed playground, however, his house in Jamaica was transformed into a museum to immortalize his image and existence. The park is located right across the street from the homes that the iconic singer and his mom previously occupied. In honor of Bob Marley's former home on Tatnall St., the formerly named Tatnall Street Playground became "One Love Park" to remember the singer's hit 1977 song with The Wailers, "One Love/People Get Ready." Bob Marley's mother resided at Tatnall St. in Wilmington and was a proprietor of the Roots music store on Market St. Meanwhile, Bob would then move right next to her mom's house.

Sounds from the United States also drifted in over the radio and through jukeboxes. Marley liked such artists as Ray Charles, Elvis Presley, Fats Domino, and the Drifters. The mausoleum rests on a place named “Mount Zion,” so you’ll probably start humming “Iron Lion Zion’ as soon as you set foot inside the property. And your guide will probably come up with amusing anecdotes about familiar tunes like “Sun Is Shining” or “Three Little Birds” if you ask him nicely. All that’s missing is someone barging in and boasting that he shot the sheriff, but left the deputy otherwise unharmed. The Museum houses memorabilia of the Legendary Reggae Singer and Superstar Bob Marley. Reggae music is identifiable with Jamaica's culture internationally, and the Museum provides a glimpse into this aspect of our musical culture. The large, creaky, colonial-era wooden house on Hope Rd, where Bob Marley lived and recorded from 1975 until his death in 1981, is the city’s most-visited site.

While there you can even take a look at the spot where assassins tried to kill the reggae star in 1979, a day that all his loyal fans would definitely remember. On December 3, 1976, seven armed men raided the residence of reggae musician Bob Marley in Kingston, Jamaica, two days before Marley was to stage a concert in an attempt to quell recent violence [clarification needed]. Politicians from across the political spectrum hoped to capitalize on Marley's support. While Marley remained neutral, many viewed him as tacitly supporting the prime minister Michael Manley and his democratic socialist People's National Party (PNP).[1] Marley and four others were shot, but all survived.

The Wailers’ big break came in 1972 when the band landed a contract with Island Records. Marley went on to sell more than 20 million records throughout his career, making him the first international superstar to emerge from the so-called developing world. A father to 11 children, Marley died from cancer in May 1981 at age 36. Rita also established the Bob Marley Museum at the site of the musician’s home in Kingston, Jamaica, from 1975 until his death. The museum has numerous personal items belonging to Marley on display and also features a theater, photo gallery, and record shop. The hour-long tour provides fascinating insights into the reggae superstar's life after moving Uptown.

Photography isn't allowed inside the house, but you'll almost certainly be instructed to sing 'One Love' at some point. It's possible to buy a joint ticket that includes entry to the Tuff Gong studios. This 75-minute cultural excursion is a leisurely walk and is partially handicap accessible for guests with collapsible wheelchairs and walkers. Please be mindful, however, that the house itself is a two-storey building with narrow stairs. We suggest international guests wear comfortable clothing including walking shoes.

Those who are looking for quick upkeep might be perfectly happy with a minimalist kit, while those who love at-home manicures will favor a set with all the accoutrements. Their inexpensive price certainly doesn't hurt, but what really stands out is the slew of online reviewers who praise the easy application process as a major win. "I never went to beauty school a day in my life and my nails came out soooo good!!! It looks like I went to the salon I am in shock," says one reviewer. But if you’re interested in trying out a gel manicure or dip-powder nails, you’ll need a kit specific to those methods, like one that includes a UV lamp or activator liquid. Just like with gel and Polygel nail kits, each acrylic nail kit is different. Some call for a more involved manicure process with several steps and sometimes a drying lamp, while others are quick-drying, like the Rossi Dipping Powder Kit and require only a few steps. "Traditional salon acrylic manicures are not the easiest [to accomplish at home] or user-friendly, so I would recommend a dip system that allows a better user experience," adds Doan. But, since it has everything you need like a file, cuticle pusher, gel removal wraps, and your choice of polish, it's incredibly easy to score a pro-grade manicure in 15 minutes. According to Le Mini Macaron, its one-step manicure generally last for seven to 10 days, so you won't have to worry about your polish peeling mid-vacation. This five-piece set is streamlined—it features a diamond-ceramic nail file, cuticle pusher and nail cleaner, nail clipper, cuticle nipper, tweezer—but offers high-quality takes on the basics. Each of the stainless steel tools are coated with a silver-ion treatment to help reduce surface germs by up to 99.9 percent.

Texas election: House speaker, challenger at odds over lack of debate

Phelan retains the support of local establishment Republicans, including the Jefferson and Orange party chairs and Beaumont Mayor Roy West, and also is endorsed by former Gov. Rick Perry. Jefferson County Republican Party Chair Joe Evans praised Phelan’s commitment to protecting the oil and gas industry and funding local colleges like Lamar University. Last year, with Republican voters citing border security as their top issue, the Phelan-led House approved $1.5 billion for walls and fencing along the Rio Grande and made illegally crossing the boundary a state crime.

Totality Begins in Eagle Pass

It remains unclear whether the two candidates will participate in a public debate ahead of the election. While Phelan has accused Covey of "ducking" the debate, Covey has returned fire in kind, saying Phelan is "dodging" an opportunity to address voters' concerns ahead of the May 28 runoff election. "Another day, another completely unsubstantiated lie from David Covey," Cait Wittman, Phelan's communications director, told the American-Statesman. "Covey’s lies are as baseless as they are tiresome, and about the only thing voters can reliably expect from him if elected."

“At some point, we need to realize we’re settling for just enough wins to get reelected,” Slaton said. He defeated state Rep. Tony Tinderholt, R-Arlington, who was nominated by ultraconservative members who say Phelan is unreasonably accommodating of Democrats in the chamber. Tinderholt cast a ballot for himself, as did two Republican members who nominated him, Nate Schatzline of Tarrant County and Bryan Slaton of Royce City. Phelan advanced to the runoff with rival David Covey, a former chairman of the Orange County Republican Party who has been endorsed by Attorney General Ken Paxton, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller and former President Donald Trump. Phelan was neck and neck with GOP challenger David Covey with votes still being counted.

Last session, in 2021, Phelan appointed 14 Democrats and 21 Republicans as committee chairs. In the final weeks he enjoyed the support of former Gov. Rick Perry, who boasted to supporters that Phelan gave his district a seat at the table in every major decision the Legislature makes. Phelan, who declined to be interviewed for this story, is described among colleagues and other Capitol observers as a straight-shooter who knows the legislative process inside and out and who has a track record of being hardworking and accommodating.

More from CBS News

"While David Covey and Dade Phelan are headed to a runoff, it's clear that our fight against the liberal forces in Austin must continue unabated." Since the end of the 88th legislative session, Phelan has frequently drawn the ire of the state's Republican apparatus. The party said the censure comes as Phelan violated Rule 44 of its bylaws, which allows the party to censure elected officials who violate the party's principles and priorities three or more times over a two-year period. Towards the end of the week, Speaker Phelan limited questions Tinderholt could bring to the floor, arguing he consistently breaks House rules. This week, some responded to Speaker Phelan's call, including Representative Jared Patterson, R - Frisco. He told NBC 5 he donated the $2,500 he's received from the group to a pro-Israel charity, saying he wants to wash his campaign from the "stain of this organization. He challenged his colleagues to do the same.

His wife, Kim, is a solo practitioner attorney and together they have four sons, Ford, Mack, Hank and Luke. He and his family reside together in Southeast Texas, where Speaker Phelan was born and raised. He received his bachelor’s degree in government and business from The University of Texas at Austin. The Texas House selected him to lead the chamber in 2021 and again this year, both times with near-unanimous votes.

With Democrats vastly outnumbered and few procedural rules to slow the GOP agenda, Republican lawmakers will have relatively easy glide paths for their legislation during the session. Patrick has given a rough outline of his legislative priorities that include reducing property taxes, securing the border and increasing the resiliency of the electric grid by increasing the production of natural gas in the state. But conservative grassroots activists said the House had not gone far enough on conservative priorities like banning gender-affirming care for transgender children and have often butted heads with Phelan. Critics attacked him for appointing Democrats to leadership positions in the chamber, following a long-held chamber tradition to appoint members of the minority party as committee chairs.

That dynamic, in a chamber where the parties are relatively closely balanced, encourages candidates for the position to seek support from members of both parties. But even if the proposed rule had been in effect in 2021 or 2023, Phelan would still have been the Speaker. In 2021, the body voted for the Beaumont representative by a margin of 143–2, with 4 members not casting ballots. (Slaton and fellow Republican Jeff Cason, of Bedford, voted in opposition.) Last year Republicans held a closed-door caucus ballot before the vote of the full chamber, and Phelan won 80–6, according to the chairman I spoke with. Phelan later won approval from the 150-member body 145–3 over representative Tony Tinderholt, a right-winger from Arlington who now has signed the Contract With Texas.

Phelan has not budged on the issue, indicating he once again plans to allow some Democratic chairs and arguing that the Texas House operates better on a bipartisan basis and eschewing the divisiveness seen in Washington, D.C. Phelan began the 2023 legislative session batting away criticism from a small but vocal faction of Republicans who routinely nag him for appointing Democrats to committee leadership positions, which they feel is a slap in the face to voters who elected a conservative majority. It was easy enough to ignore, as Phelan still overwhelmingly had the confidence of his House membership. Phelan guided the House through the 2021 legislative sessions, which some observers called “the most conservative” in state history. Lawmakers passed new laws banning almost all abortions and allowing permitless carry of handguns. Although the Legislature eventually passed a bill addressing property taxes and introduced into law a sweeping border security package, Patrick and Phelan have remained on bad terms as the Senate's boss has actively campaigned against Phelan and his allies.

That has not stopped David Covey — the GOP activist and energy consultant who pushed Phelan into a May runoff for his House seat — from also condemning the speaker for not casting a vote on SB 4. Two of Covey’s most prominent backers, former President Donald Trump and Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, have echoed the same attack. But the earlier proposal has resurfaced in the speaker’s own GOP primary as his critics blame him for its demise in their broader effort to paint the Beaumont Republican as soft on the border and overly deferential to Democrats.

This is going to be an especially tough conversation, but this body has proven capable of handling tough conversations in the past. Last May, the lives of 21 Texans - teachers and children - were stolen when a gunman opened fire at Robb Elementary in Uvalde, Texas. We owe it to the memory of those children and teachers to make sensible, meaningful change. To make this down payment even more critical - over a thousand people move to Texas every single day. Our constituents also want roads that can move them in a timely manner from their home to their job, to their child's school, or their place of worship.

Phelan upheld the point of order based on the recommendation of the House parliamentarian, though critics argued the ruling was flawed and said Phelan should have taken the rare step of overruling the parliamentarian, who acts as a sort of referee for legislative disputes. “If the governor felt we could be doing more, we would be in a special session getting it done right now,” said Jetton, who was defeated in his primary by insurance adjuster Matt Morgan, a staunch Phelan critic. Many of Phelan’s Republican allies have faced similar attacks even after voting for the entire slate of border legislation that made it through the Legislature last year. That strategy likely contributed to the record number of House Republicans ousted in last month’s GOP primary, a trend Phelan and several other incumbents are trying to forestall in the May runoffs. The proposal Phelan teased, known as House Bill 20, sought to create a team of police and deputized citizens to patrol the southern border.

Though he blasted Phelan’s support for Democratic committee chairs, he was unable to name a conservative priority that has failed in the chamber as a result. He acknowledged that the House passed border security bills last year, but said it was too little, too late. He also blasted Phelan’s decision to appoint a small number of Democrats to chair House committees, an issue that has motivated Republican primary voters this cycle. By November, several county Republican parties, including Orange and Jasper in his district, had censured the speaker over his perceived failure to adhere to conservative orthodoxy by being accommodating to Democrats, tepid on border security and supporting the impeachment.

Phelan doesn’t view the race as a yardstick to measure whether he or the attorney general is more influential in the state party. He sees his path to victory as reminding voters why he’s the best candidate to bring this often overlooked region the resources it needs to prosper in the future. The backlash has created an opening for two primary challengers — one of whom, David Covey, is well-funded — and placed Phelan in the most precarious position of his political career.

Yet his attempt to overthrow the House leadership was being widely watched as an attempt to push an already conservative chamber further to the right. Paxton was acquitted of corruption and abuse of office allegations in a historic Texas Senate trial in 2023. But he blamed Phelan for leading that effort and mounted a political revenge campaign to oust the House leader and others who supported the unsuccessful attempt to drive him from office. Covey said he is well-positioned to represent the district’s economically and socially conservative values, citing his decades of involvement in Republican politics since he attended the party’s state convention as a child. In his view, Phelan is an out-of-touch Austin insider who abandoned his constituents to secure the speaker’s gavel.

Money flows into Texas House GOP primary battles this season

BEAUMONT — If past is prologue, Dade Phelan’s return to the Texas House would be all but guaranteed. Attorney General Ken Paxton, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, and former President Donald Trump are accusing Phelan of being a “RINO,” even as Phelan has overseen the passage of some of the most conservative bills in recent history. He touted lawmakers’ restrained spending of state dollars and business-friendly policies as reasons for the budget surplus. Importantly, the surplus also stems from an influx of federal funds given to the state to navigate through the COVID-19 pandemic and an increase in sales tax revenue that comes from Texans having to spend more because of rising inflation in the country.

Former Texas House speaker says GOP megadonor Tim Dunn told him only Christians should hold leadership positions

(Though many are headed to general elections that they’re likely to win.) The Republican chairman told me he’s certain that the contract’s supporters won’t have a large enough caucus to change the rules next session, but that just stirring a fight over the contract might benefit them politically. “I think they want to lose so they can march, fund-raise, and have something going into another primary cycle to make money off of,” he said. Some voters see Covey’s background as a party chairman as a sign he’s just like Phelan, a glad-handing politician willing to betray their values should they send him to Austin. Instead, they’re backing Alicia Davis, the third candidate in the race who has centered her campaign on eliminating property taxes. Also gone is Amarillo state Sen. Kel Seliger, a business-oriented Republican who had an independent streak and would sometimes tank legislation supported by Patrick.

Texans need truth. Help us report it.

Patrick’s legislative goals also became the Senate’s top priority, a situation that was hammered home after Seliger voted against two of Patrick’s priorities, badmouthed fellow Republicans and made a crude comment about a Patrick adviser. Seliger said informal rules also were established, such as one requiring Democrats to gain support from a significant number of Republicans before getting a floor vote. Bill Ratliff, a Republican who served as lieutenant governor for a little over two years after then-Gov. George W. Bush was elected president in 2000, said he got along “famously” with then-Speaker Pete Laney, a Democrat. “It’s about the policy that the people want us to pass that the House continues to kill,” Patrick told WFAA before the March primary. In any case, the Legislature eventually passed SB 4, along with another bill that imposes stiffer penalties for people convicted of smuggling immigrants or operating a stash house.

Defend Texas Liberty PAC is Attorney General Ken Paxton's largest donor by far, and they vocally pressured state senators to acquit him because of his conservative efforts. Before the trial, the group gave Lt. Governor Dan Patrick as presiding judge a $1 million donation and a $2 million loan. Both Paxton and Patrick have now called on Phelan to resign, believing Phelan is taking advantage of the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas. When members cast ballots, the only support for Tinderholt came from the two members who nominated him. All of the members of the ultraconservative House Freedom Caucus appeared to back Phelan; the group has not yet released its roster for this session. Phelan also cited recent reporting by The Texas Tribune about an increase in rural hospitals no longer delivering babies and committed to reversing that trend. He said the record $32.7 billion budget surplus should allow lawmakers to make a “down payment on the future of Texas,” citing additional needs including roads, clean water, flood mitigation and high-speed internet.

Paxton has also sought retribution against several House members who led the effort to remove him from office. And Gov. Greg Abbott has campaigned aggressively against a cadre of Republicans who voted against his coveted private school voucherlike program. Patrick, who served as judge in the impeachment trial before the Senate, kept quiet until senators voted largely along party lines to acquit Paxton. In front of senators, House impeachment managers and cameras, Patrick criticized the process as flawed, rushed and unfair to Paxton. Patrick also called for an audit on House spending and said laws should be changed to prevent hasty impeachments.

House Speaker Dade Phelan heading to runoff with Trump-backed challenger.

He replaced one-term speaker Dennis Bonnen, who retired after becoming embroiled in a secret recording scandal in 2019 in which he bashed members of his own party. Texas House of Representatives members on Tuesday voted to elect state Rep. Dade Phelan, R-Beaumont, to a second term as speaker — the most powerful position in the lower chamber. The May 28 runoff promises to be a high-profile slugfest in this elbow of Texas that borders Louisiana.

Speaker Phelan and almost sixty members of the House Republican caucus called for lawmakers to disavow the group and return the millions they've donated. The House insurgents are supported and politically financed by Defend Texas Liberty PAC, led by one of the former anti-Speaker insurgents, Jonathan Stickland. Bius told me he hopes the contract will ensure that the next Speaker can’t, like Phelan and Speakers before him, “build an empire.” As for the prospect that the Contract With Texas could make the House less effective at passing commonsense legislation, Bius seemed to harbor no concerns. Mark Davis, a conservative talk radio host, said the deep rift between Phelan and Patrick was the natural result of the House’s role as a backstop against some of the conservative legislation that has sailed through the Senate. Phelan said he knew nothing, Patrick recalled, characterizing the speaker as untruthful or unaware of what his House leaders were doing. The Patrick-Phelan relationship took a further turn after the House voted overwhelmingly, with Phelan’s support, to impeach Paxton in May.

He accused Phelan of cowing to Democrats’ interests on issues like punishing voter fraud and bail reform. Phelan was first elected in 2014, when he trounced his Democratic opponent by 48 points. His family is among the most distinguished in Beaumont and its prominence, like the city’s, traces back to the oil field.

In 2019, Speaker Phelan was named by Texas Monthly as one of the Best Legislators of the 86th legislative session. He has earned numerous additional accolades in recognition of his legislative service, including Capitol Inside's "Most Valuable Sophomore Member" in 2017 and as one of their "Most Outstanding Freshmen Legislators" in 2015. Phelan is the former president and two-time Governor appointee to the Lower Neches Valley Authority. His board service includes the Texas Lyceum, Southeast Texas CASA, Golden Triangle Coastal Conservation Association, The Jefferson Theater, St. Anne Catholic Church and Catholic Charities of Southeast Texas. In addition to his duties as Speaker, Phelan works as a real estate developer at his family's fourth generation commercial real estate development firm, which owns and manages retail, industrial and office property in Texas and Arkansas.

The race has become a referendum on the influence of the most conservative faction of the party, which aims to make Phelan the first speaker to lose a primary in 52 years. "Dade Phelan has dodged every debate and public forum since the beginning of this race because he cannot defend his embarrassing record on border security,” Covey said in a statement Thursday. Phelan said he would shepherd bills through the chamber that have the support of a majority of members while also ensuring that lawmakers from the minority party would have a meaningful voice. Covey’s campaign has been heavily funded by Defend Texas Liberty, the political group mainly bankrolled by Midland oilman Tim Dunn, a Paxton ally and conservative activist.

The bill required local police to cooperate with federal immigration authorities and allowed police to inquire about the immigration status of people they lawfully detained. Opponents called it a "show-me-your-papers" law that invited racial profiling and would make immigrant groups fearful of police. One such issue that came across his desk was a proposal that sought to bar cities from enacting rules on how businesses schedule their employees’ shifts. The idea had broad support among the business community and Republicans in both chambers after multiple cities had passed regulations requiring employers in their cities to offer paid sick leave.

When the measure reached Phelan’s committee, he inserted the protections back in. The decision created an impasse with Senate leadership, and the bill — which had begun the session seeming certain to pass — eventually died. When Dade Phelan rolled out a list this month of Texas House members backing his bid to become the next speaker, the chamber’s wide and oftentimes complicated ideological spectrum was on full display. Phelan was a prominent lieutenant of current House Speaker Dennis Bonnen, whose handling of the 2019 legislative session was popular before scandal brought him down. We can all agree that our border towns have been bearing the brunt of Washington's failed immigration policies - some going as far as declaring themselves to be in a state of disaster. Every Texas budget I have ever voted for has poured hundreds of millions, now billions, of dollars into the gap between federal policies and the realities on the ground.

If you don’t have all these things on hand, feel free to improvise and work with what you have. It’s ok if the cake bits crack a bit as you bend them into place. Repeat the process on top of each ruffle garland to create a double ruffle garland. Use Wilton Tip 1M to pipe swirls onto the cake wherever you’d like. Using the Wilton 5, pipe the garlands along the side of the cake.

It can be stored in piping bags or an airtight container in the fridge for up to a month, or in the freezer for up to 3 months. Place a small round piping tip like a Wilton 10 on the lightest brown bag of buttercream and pipe small hearts on the side of the cake where the semicircles meet. Secure a small French tip on the darkest bag of chocolate buttercream and pipe a shell border around the top edge and base of the cake. Then add a second, thicker layer of frosting to the cake and smooth using a bench scraper and a small offset spatula. Bake the cake layers for minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the middle of the cake comes out with a few moist crumbs.

You may think the only route to a heart-shaped cake starts with using a special cake pan, but we're here to tell you that this just isn't the case. The technique we're sharing does not require any special equipment beyond a round and a square cake pan, which you likely already own. You can make any cake you love—we chose our favorite chocolate cake, then simply pieced it together to form a heart shape. Pink, of course, is the perfect color frosting for Valentine's Day, but you can feel free to get creative here, too.

After assembling, crumb coating, and frosting the cake, I divided the remaining buttercream into 3 separate bowls. I added slightly more to one of those bowls (roughly ½ of the buttercream in one bowl and ¼ of the buttercream in each of the other bowls). In the bowl with the most buttercream, I used 2 drops of AmeriColor Fuchsia + 2 drops of AmeriColor Deep Pink to create a bold fuchsia color. In the second bowl, I used 2 drops of AmeriColor Deep Pink to create a darker pink color. I kept the third bowl the same light pink color I started with.

Spread a little buttercream onto it before adding the first cake layer on top. Position the two curved pieces that you cut off in Step 1 to be the top of the heart, then pipe on some buttercream “glue” to adhere them. Crumb coat the cake with a thin layer of buttercream to really emphasize the shape of the heart and lock in all the crumbs. Place the crumb coated cake into the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes to let the frosting firm up. Unless you’re planning on serving the cake on the turntable after you decorate it, trim the 8-inch cardboard cake round in the same way you trimmed the cake layers. This will end up being the foundation of the heart-shaped cake and will make it much easier to transfer the cake off the turntable after you’re done decorating.

I like to use a bit of frosting to stick the trimmings to the cake layer, then chill the cake in the freezer. Cut the cake layer along those lines with a serrated knife. Press the cake trimmings against the top of the cake to make the top of the heart. I started with 3 batches (about 9 Cups) of my vanilla buttercream recipe which was tinted pink with one drop of AmeriColor Deep Pink.

Add a thin coat of frosting around the cake to fully cover the cake layers. Spread an even layer of buttercream between the cake layers with a large offset spatula. Place the top cake layer upside down to make it easier to get sharp corners. I chose to make this cake with chocolate American buttercream because it’s sturdy and easy to pipe with.

Pipe the next shell directly onto the tail of the first. Place the cardboard base you created in Step 1 onto the turntable. Position the two curved pieces that you cut off in Step 1 to be the top of the heart, then use some buttercream to adhere them. As a result, there’s truly something for everyone– at every price point. From super famous 3-D cake masters to niche paleo bakeries, here’s where to get the best, coolest birthday cakes in Los Angeles.

Baker & recipe developer on a mission to make baking EASY, affordable, and delicious. Please leave a review and rating letting me know how you liked this recipe! This helps my small business thrive so I can continue providing free recipes and high-quality content for you.

Position the next layer of cake on top, adhering the curved pieces of the heart with buttercream just like you did with the bottom cake layer. I ended up tracing the cut cake pieces onto a piece of cardboard, then cutting out the heart shape with an x-acto knife to create a cake board for building the cake on. You can skip the handmade cake board if you’re planning on assembling and serving the cake on a larger cake drum. This design will work in all sorts of color palettes, but with Valentine’s Day around the corner I could not stop imagining an all-pink color palette. I used a mix of AmeriColor Deep Pink and Fuchsia to get three different shades of pink for this beauty.

2023 Cost to Paint a House Exterior & Interior Painting

how much does it cost to paint a house

Most jobs require a primer, such as if the wall has been painted over, the walls had wallpaper or a textured surface, or for a more drastic color change. Painting brick masonry seals it when it starts to crumble from age or if the brick doesn’t match. Painting brick houses can also hide step crack repairs from foundation movement. Brick masonry usually only requires two coats and costs between $2.50 and $5.25 per square foot.

When is the best time to paint house interiors?

Exterior house painting costs $1 to $4 per square foot on average. Labor costs increase for homes with multiple stories, repairs, and obstructions like trees, bushes, or uneven ground. While painting companies don’t usually disclose their actual per-hour rate and instead provide a total project cost, you can expect a painter to cost between $20 and $50 per hour. While hiring a professional painting company will cost more than DIY, there are benefits to doing so. Professional painters will ensure the paint is applied perfectly at the edges and corners and that the overall finish is clean and smooth.

DIY Painting Steps

Typically, a small room (like a bathroom) will need one gallon of paint to cover 400 square feet. An average-sized room has about 800 square feet of painting surface and will require two gallons of paint. And a large room typically needs three gallons, which will cover 1,200 square feet.

New Construction Interior Painting Cost

Keep in mind that if you’re making a significant change to paint colors—like a dark color to a light shade or vice versa—you’ll likely require more coats of paint. Additionally, if you’re unsure what exterior paint color to choose, you might want to meet with a painting company color consultant. Some types of metal siding and brick may be easy to paint, but they can also be more expensive depending on the finish and number of coats needed. A home with stucco exterior can also be more expensive to paint because its texture requires extensive preparation and extra materials and labor for the same coverage. Wood siding and vinyl siding take paint easily and may come pre-primed, so they’re on the cheaper end of the spectrum. You may be able to save on labor costs by painting your house yourself.

Paint and Primer Type, Quality, and Finish

The season in which you paint may also affect your interior painting costs. If you're hiring a professional interior painter, chances are your costs might be lower in the winter when there’s less demand. Larger homes (with more rooms), higher ceilings and bigger walls will typically cost more to paint. That’s because the contractor will need to supply additional paint to cover the additional surfaces.

how much does it cost to paint a house

Regional house painting prices will differ due to the overall cost of living in that area. The type and quality of the paint will affect the overall cost of painting a house. Lower-priced paints may need more coats to sufficiently cover a home’s exterior, and more expensive paints may be thicker and provide more coverage. While it may cost more up front, going with a higher quality paint will extend the paint job’s life. You can customize and personalize your home by painting the exterior yourself. Consider the Curb Appeal, which can significantly impact your home’s value.

The right ladder to fit your exterior painting needs will vary by the size of your home. But generally, the job will require an extension ladder, which can run from $218 to $314. Some sidings cost more to paint than others because of their texture and the type of paint required to properly cover them. Oil-based paint is commonly used for high-moisture areas, such as bathrooms and kitchens, and floors, trims, and moldings, since these areas take more abuse over time than walls do. Painting your house doesn't just give it a new look, it also offers protection for the structure, including all who live in it. Your home gets hit by various types of weather and moisture (rain or snow) throughout the years.

Painters charge $180 to $650 to paint a room or $20 to $50 per hour for smaller projects. A professional estimate typically includes prep work such as floor and furniture covering, taping, minor surface preparation, and painting the walls only. Painting ceilings, baseboards, trim, casings, windows, railing, crown molding, and wainscotting increase your overall costs. The average cost to paint kitchen walls is $150 to $250 since cabinets, backsplashes, and appliances occupy most of the wall space. Professional kitchen cabinet painting costs $30 to $60 per linear foot, or between $900 and $3,800 on average.

Surface material.

Asking a house painting professional the right questions can help minimize miscommunication, save money, and get the desired results. The following are some questions for homeowners to ask about the price to paint a house. Painting vinyl siding can range from $500 to $2,500, or $1 to $3 per square foot.

The average cost to paint the exterior of a 2,000-square-foot home is $5,200, but that number rises up to $12,000 for a three-story house. Regardless of the number of stories or the square footage of your home, average outdoor painting prices break down to $1–$4 per square foot. We’ll explain the factors that determine exterior painting costs and examine the pros and cons of painting your home’s exterior yourself. The exterior material type is a significant factor in calculating the cost to paint a house. Wood and vinyl siding can cost around $2 per square foot to paint.

However, if you’re not an experienced painter, your learning curve will be steeper. Making an error will add more time and required resources to the project. To avoid shoddy paint jobs or walls that need to be refreshed more frequently in the future, use high-quality paint that’s appropriate for the environment.

Though there is often less to paint, exterior painting projects can be more costly because of the complexity of the task. Painting a house takes 4 to 5 days on average, including cleaning, preparation, and painting. Painting time depends on the home and crew size, weather, and prep work required. Painting vinyl siding costs $1 to $3 per square foot or $1,700 to $5,100 for a 2,000 SF home. Vinyl siding typically lasts up to 25 years or more but may fade sooner with extreme weather or sun exposure. In addition to being an eyesore, paint that is bubbling or flaking away leaves parts of the home’s exterior exposed.

While it’s less expensive to paint wood siding, it requires more maintenance since it’s vulnerable to the elements. It’s recommended to paint wood siding every 5 to 10 years or when the paint is visibly in need of a refresh. If any of these tasks need additional time or effort to complete, the total cost of your painting job could be greater than the average price. Interior painting labor costs $1 to $3 per square foot of coverage area or $3 to $7 per square foot of floor space.

Higher-quality paint can often withstand environmental factors like condensation and UV rays than lower-quality, cheaper paint. However, it can save you money in the long run if the paint is more durable. Some professionals use a paint sprayer indoors, but this is typically reserved for larger projects or new homes when the homeowner isn’t present. Sprayers create odors and fumes that require ventilation, Krall says. On the other hand, opting for cheaper paint brands may result in a less durable outcome that requires more frequent repainting, which could increase overall expenses.

The Opportunist-Role Model is a unique and fascinating profile within the Human Design system. It combines the qualities of a generous visionary, a warm-hearted individual, and a wise leader. However, there is an unconscious tension within this profile, as it also feels the need to stand apart and experiment with different approaches, reflecting on the broader view of things. The last phase, post the age of 50, is marked by becoming the role model.

Yes, you should understand that there is no point in imposing yourself, trying to create a good impression of yourself. At this time, you get rid of adolescent maximalism and begin to learn to see things as they really are. Although past mistakes didn’t break you, you were forced to be more careful and more prudent in life. You are a very open person who easily makes friends, easily finds common ground with others. Yes, and you are not trying to make yourself out of it, showing off your superiority to others.

The Phases of Life

However, recognition is essential for ensuring that your wisdom and guidance are truly valued and appreciated. It’s important to manage your energy wisely, paying attention to your body’s signals for rest and relaxation. This can be challenging in a society that often values constant productivity, but remember that your worth is not determined by how much you do, but by the wisdom and guidance you provide. One of the key aspects of being a Projector, including a 4/6 Projector, is understanding and respecting your unique energy dynamics. Unlike the energy types in Human Design (Manifestors, Generators, and Manifesting Generators), Projectors do not have a consistent supply of energy for work. Instead, your energy operates in ebbs and flows and is best utilized for guiding and managing.

If you have self-projected authority, your truth is revealed through your own voice. Talking things out and expressing yourself helps you understand what is correct for you. Lastly, as a Projector, your energy dynamic is geared more towards guiding and directing others, rather than initiating or working tirelessly.

4/6 human design meaning

Firstly, remember that your life journey, with all its ups and downs, holds immense wisdom. It’s a testament to your resilience and ability to navigate through life’s challenges. There will be periods of highs and lows – embrace both as opportunities for growth and learning. It’s a unique journey of growth, wisdom, and becoming that only you can travel. Fourthly, while it’s important to learn from your experiences, it’s also essential to look forward to the future.

The 4/6 Manifestor is a rare type, combining the roles of the opportunist and role model in one. Your strategy is to inform before you act, which allows for a smoother journey through life. In conclusion, the 4/6 Profile in Human Design is a unique journey of life experience, introspection, and maturity.

You serve as a beacon of wisdom and guidance for others, inspiring them through your experiences and insights. Embrace this role, for it’s a crucial part of your journey as a 4/6 Manifesting Generator. In personal relationships, 4/6 Reflectors are often known for their ability to understand and reflect back the emotions and energies of those around them. This can create an environment of deep empathy and understanding, but also poses its unique challenges. As highly sensitive individuals, they can easily become overwhelmed by the emotions of others and need time to disconnect and recharge. Once you transition into your role model phase, you could naturally move into roles that allow you to share your wisdom and experience, such as mentoring, coaching, or leadership positions.

You are likely to have a solid group of close friends and connections that you can depend on. Your connections play a crucial role in your life, often providing opportunities or aiding your endeavors. The key to thriving as a 4/6 profile is to embrace the journey, understanding that each phase has its purpose and contributes to their personal growth. Recognizing that the challenges faced during the exploratory phase are necessary for gaining wisdom can be comforting and empowering.

Now let’s take a closer look at the three different life stages of the 6th line. Because connections are so vital to a 4/6, they’re very susceptible to becoming preoccupied with how they’re perceived by others. This can lead to excessive efforts to gain recognition, and again, this doesn’t work for the Opportunist.

In the early phases of their life, the explorative energy might push them towards forming multiple intimate bonds, driven by curiosity and the quest for the “right” connection. They tend to be passionate, involved, and sometimes even a tad impulsive. However, it’s also essential to recognize their need for solitude, especially post their experimental phase.

"They're really here to use their body to show them how they're meant to use their energy, what they actually want, and what they actually love," Stiles tells mbg. This is part of the reason their theme is satisfaction, which will be achieved, according to Brafman, by "continually responding to things that are a 'yes' for them," she explains. We'll get into those distinctions shortly, but we'll break down Generators in general first.

Walls much higher than nine feet, especially those with vaulted ceilings, will be more costly to paint. If your home has textured walls, whether “orange peel,” popcorn or swirled patterns, they will cost more to paint—up to 50% more. A gallon of paint does not go as far on a textured wall as on a smooth wall. For example, if a gallon of paint covers 400 square feet of a smooth wall, it might only cover 250 square feet of a textured wall. While it might seem obvious that the larger a home, the more expensive it is to paint, there are other factors related to house size to consider. If you need more than one level of your home painted, additional labor fees will be included in your pricing to account for transporting materials from floor to floor.

Labor Cost

In general, professional painters charge more per hour or square foot in areas with a higher cost of living, like urban and coastal areas. If you are adding painting your ceiling to the to-do list for your painters, expect the overall bill to increase. However, painting a ceiling can be a large project or a small one based on how much square footage needs to be covered. For instance, painting a ceiling for a 12-by12-foot room can range from $150 to $350, but the larger the room and the higher the ceilings, the higher the paint cost. Also, similar to your walls, if your ceiling requires additional prep work like removing a popcorn ceiling, sanding or patching, you can expect the price for painting to increase.

You’ll also want to consider the current condition of your siding. If repairs are required to fix damage from weather, insects or animals before painting, this could increase the total cost. The labor cost to paint a house exterior is $0.80 to $2.80 per square foot or 70% to 80% of the total cost.

Here’s how to estimate what a new paint job will cost, and tips to save. There may be an increased cost for professional painting if there is a shortage of labor and materials. This is especially true if there is a high demand for labor services in the local area.

“If you hire a pro, expect to pay between $20 and $50 an hour for labor costs,” Micetich says. In every case, it’s best to compare both quality and cost when reviewing house painters’ quotes. If your house needs a makeover, painting can be a sure way to get a fresh look. On average, a homeowner can expect to pay $1,983 to paint their home, according to Angi cost data.

An example of the cost difference between a gallon of semi-gloss Behr Premium Plus and Behr Marquee in the same color is $40 versus $59. Flat, or matte finish on the no-shine end of the finish spectrum. It's good for adults' bedrooms and other interior rooms that won't be roughed up by kids.

Hiring A Professional Painter

On average, you’ll spend $150 to $350 for a professional to paint your bathroom. Book painting services and compare quotes form highly rated painters near you. Schedule painting in advance to avoid rush charges or missing out on an appointment. This is especially important during busy seasons, such as the spring. If you want to paint your home during this time, make sure to plan ahead. Poulos also cautions that a lot of skill is involved, especially in using professional-grade paint sprayers on outdoor jobs. “All it takes is a little overspray on the neighbor’s new car or fence to make it worth hiring a pro,” he says.

Repairs completed in advance also permit substances like caulk or wood putty to dry thoroughly. Likewise, brick is a more expensive surface to paint, ranging from $3,500 to $10,500 for a 1,500- to 2,000-square-foot home, according to HomeAdvisor. The same-sized home with vinyl siding would run you between $600 and $3,500.

If the cost is separate, be sure to include an additional $1 to $6 per linear foot to paint your exterior trim. For this reason, two 2,500-square-foot homes may have different painting prices if one requires more specialized labor and complex tasks. Like most interior design, when it comes to painting a house, every project is unique. Painting a brick house costs $1.50 to $4.50 per square foot or $2,600 to $7,700 for a 2,000 SF home. Mineral-based paints cost the most but last the longest and maintain the brick's breathability to prevent deterioration. Painting a single 150-square-foot room will likely take six to eight hours, depending on the height of the walls, number of coats of paint required and how fast you can work.

Price range, however, can vary depending on many factors, including the size of a house, the gallons of paint needed to complete the project, and what type of prep work is involved. The majority of the cost to paint a house exterior comes from labor. Most professionals will charge between $25 and $100 per hour to paint a house, and that price is usually folded into the quote. An experienced house painting contractor will know how long it will take to complete the project and how many painters to use to get the job done right.

The brand of paint being used is another important factor in how much it costs to paint a house. Anyone who has calculated the cost to paint a room in their house knows that choosing a paint brand can feel daunting because of the wide variety of options available. Below are average cost ranges for some of the most popular paint brands. 2,100 square feet of paintable area divided by 350 square feet of coverage equals 6 gallons of paint.

“It’s a great investment.” Painting can also increase the value of your home. Before you can give your home a fresh coat of paint, you’ll of course need to buy the paint that will be used. Higher quality paint generally costs more than a lower quality alternative (however, it’s important to remember that a high price doesn’t necessarily mean a high quality paint).

Some homes also require power washing and other prep work in order to paint, which can increase what painters charge. “DIY interior painting usually costs between $200 and $300,” Micetich says. Unless you’re a seasoned pro, you run the risk of uneven coats, air bubbles, streaks, and drips. The price of paint is actually a lesser factor in the total cost of an exterior painting job. The average single-story, 2,000 square-foot home can be completely covered with two coats by using six gallons of paint.
